For our Cameroon Country Office, we are looking for a dynamic and committed Volunteer – Legal and Compliance (Maternity Cover).

Location: Yaounde
Duration: six (06) months
Major Functions
The Volunteer – Legal and Compliance will contribute to effective contract management, legal compliance, due diligence, policy adherence/compliance and the identification of potential legal and reputational risks related to WWF Cameroon’s partnerships and operations.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Contribute to thorough legal review and analysis of incoming agreements to ensure alignment with WWF internal policies, procedures, and applicable national legislation.

Support management and monitoring of all incoming and outgoing contracts in the CCO contract management system to ensure contracting procedures are respected and timelines effectively monitored.

Contribute to the drafting, review, and legal compliance of WWF CCO agreements, including Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs), Partnership Agreements, Consultancy Agreements, Service Provider Agreements and other legal instruments.

Contribute to due diligence assessments for partnerships prior to contract establishment, in alignment with WWF Due Diligence guidelines, standards and applicable national legislation.

Update and manage the CCO Due Diligence database, ensuring the monitoring and follow-up of corrective measures for identified risks.

Contribute to the legal advice and guidance on contracting matters, legal risks, compliance obligations, and contractual non-compliance to programme teams, technical leads, and CCO leadership team.

Provide periodic updates on contract status, compliance matters and required actions to thematic leads, project managers, and management, as required.

Support dispute resolution processes and provide legal guidance on contractual disagreements, escalation mechanisms, and contract non-compliance issues.

Participate to legal and governance support to promote effective compliance and fiduciary oversight within WWF Cameroon Country Office.

Any other duties as may be assigned.
Profile:

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in law (LL. B) or equivalent. A Master’s degree in Law will be an added advantage;

Practical legal experience in a law firm or legal chambers, including exposure to litigation matters, is highly desirable;

Experience in corporate and contract law is essential, with at least one (1) year of relevant legal experience, preferably within an NGO or similar setting;

Knowledge or experience in conservation, environmental law, or NGO operations is an asset.
Required Skills and Competencies:

Experience working with donors, partners and the private sector;

Good communication, networking and influencing skills, with strong written and verbal proficiency in both English and French;

Experience liaising with external legal counsel;

Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking and critical reading skills to ensure objective and thorough legal review;

Working Relationships
Internal - Interacts regularly with the country director, Managers and staff in WWF Cameroon, the ROA team as well as staff of other relevant units within the WWF network in fulfillment of duties.
External - Interacts with partners, staff and visitors from other conservation organizations.
