The U.S. Mission in Cameroon is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the Public Health Specialist (HIV/TB/Malaria) position in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Duties
Job holder is a senior TB/HIV, malaria, and infectious diseases specialist who is a key public health technical advisor to the CDC senior leadership team including the Associate Director of Clinical and Laboratory Services and CDC Overseas Office Director. The incumbent is comprehensively responsible for programs conducted in the area of HIV-Tuberculosis (TB/HIV) co-infection, malaria, and opportunistic infection services. This position oversees cross-cutting interventions that are integral to the HIV/AIDS, TB, and malaria portfolio supported by CDC in Cameroon.
Responsibilities include:
- Active technical advisory role to the Ministry of Public Health and implementing partners.
- Day-to-day program and administrative management.
- Coordination and collaboration with other USG agencies to ensure project implementation aligns with strategic objectives and public health standards.
The position requires public health technical leadership, results-oriented analysis, stakeholder engagement, and clear communication with various partners. The incumbent represents CDC-Cameroon on TB/HIV, malaria, and opportunistic infections at technical, policy, and strategic planning meetings.
Qualifications
Education: A Doctor of Public Health (DrPH), Doctor of Medicine (MD) with specialty in Internal Medicine, or Doctor of Medicine (MD) with Master of Public Health (MPH), or Doctor of Philosophy, public health or epidemiology (PhD), or a Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) is required.
Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of mid-to-senior level public health experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating infectious disease programs for TB, HIV, malaria, or other relevant public health programs involving coordination with international agencies or implementing partners. One additional year of managerial-level experience is required.
Language: Fluent in English (speaking, reading, writing) and good working knowledge of French (speaking, reading, writing).
Skills and Abilities
- Strong oral and written communication skills are required to develop and maintain effective working relationships with national and international partners.
- Strong managerial skills to operate independently and lead project teams.
- Ability to analyze and discuss program design, management, and implementation approaches.
- Intermediate-level proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and databases.
