PARTAGER AVEC VOS PROCHES SUR :

The Environmental and Lung Health Association (ELHEAS) is a Cameroonian non-profit organization dedicated to reducing the burden of environmental and respiratory diseases through research, community education, advocacy, and clinical partnerships. ELHEAS works with communities, health facilities, and policy makers to address air pollution, occupational and household exposures, tobacco control, and other environmental drivers of lung disease across Cameroon.

JOB SUMMARY

The Programs and Research Officer will support the day-to-day implementation of ELHEAS’s environmental and lung health activities in Douala and surrounding communities. The role covers field data collection, community engagement, grant writing, data analysis, logistics, and reporting.

PROGRAMS AND RESEARCH OFFICER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the planning and day-to-day implementation of project activities in line with the workplan and budget.
  • Organize and facilitate community sensitization sessions, workshops, and stakeholder meetings.
  • Conduct field visits to collect, verify, and enter data on air quality and respiratory health indicators.
  • Maintain accurate project records, including activity trackers, attendance sheets, and field reports.
  • Liaise with community leaders, health facilities, and local authorities to facilitate project activities.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and donor progress reports.
  • Analyse primary data collected in line with ELHEAS’s research activities.
  • Prepare manuscripts for article publications.
  • Support monitoring and evaluation activities, including data quality checks and follow-up visits.
  • Coordinate logistics for trainings, outreach campaigns, and field missions.
  • Coordinate and contribute to writing proposals for funding.
  • Contribute to the development of information, education, and communication (IEC) materials.
  • Ensure proper documentation and safe-keeping of project equipment and supplies.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the coordinator, relevant to the ELHEAS’s objectives.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Master’s degree in Public Health, Environmental Science, Nursing, or a related field.

Working Experience

  • At least 2 to 3 years of experience in project implementation, preferably in public health, environmental health, or community development.
  • Experience conducting field data collection and community outreach is required.
  • Prior experience working with an NGO or research project is an added advantage.

Languages

  • French and English are the working languages of the organization.
  • Fluency in oral and written English/French is required.

Additional Skills

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple field activities under tight timelines.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills for engaging communities and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, R, SPSS and PowerPoint; familiarity with mobile data collection tools (e.g. KoboCollect, ODK) is an advantage.

ASSESSMENT

Selection of qualified candidates will include an initial review of applications, followed by an interview of shortlisted candidates and verification of professional references.
