Summary:
The U.S. Mission in Cameroon is hiring a Deputy Motor Pool Supervisor to support daily operations of the embassy's vehicle fleet and driving staff, ensuring safe and smooth transportation services. The role involves overseeing the Dispatcher, coordinating schedules for sixteen chauffeurs and over twenty additional drivers, stepping in as section lead when the Supervisor is absent, and serving as a certified driving safety instructor.

Duties
Key Responsibilities


Manage Driver Schedules and Travel



Prepare and communicate drivers' weekly and monthly schedules, including shuttle rotations

Develop weekly pickup/drop-off plans for staff and visitors traveling to and from the workplace, submitting plans for security approval

Coordinate long-distance trip assignments, distributing them fairly among drivers

Track and follow up on travel authorizations from start to finish

Review driver expense reports from long trips before forwarding for approval


Ensure Vehicle and Driver Standards



Ensure drivers maintain professional appearance and follow embassy hygiene standards

Ensure vehicles are cleaned, fueled, and inspected daily, with documentation

Report any rule violations or improper driver conduct to the Motor Pool Supervisor

Keep vehicle, employee, and passenger records updated in embassy tracking systems


Provide Driver Safety Training



Serve as a certified driving safety instructor for regular and backup drivers


Support Daily Fleet Operations



Assist the Dispatcher with closing out daily trip records and generating fuel authorizations

Coordinate vehicle maintenance scheduling with the maintenance team

Ensure vehicle registrations and insurance remain current

Notify appropriate officials of accidents/incidents and ensure required accident reports are completed

Arrange vehicle support and coordinate motorcades for VIP visits


Additional Duties



Serve as a backup driver during special events, when necessary

Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications and Evaluations
Requirements:
All selected candidates must be able to obtain and hold a: 



Security Certificate; or 

Public Trust - background investigation Security Clearance. 


All selected candidates will be subject to a background investigation and may be subject to a pre-employment medical exam.


Selected candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time upon receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.

Education Requirements:
Two years of college or university studies is required.

Qualifications:
Experience: At least two years of Dispatching experience in transport or logistics including chauffeuring skills and leadership experience while working with as part of a team is required. Additionally, at least six months of supervisory experience is required.


Language: Good working knowledge (speaking, reading, writing) in English and French.  This may be tested.


Job Knowledge: Must have a good knowledge of motor vehicle operation, safety, automotive maintenance cycle. Must know host country traffic regulations. Must know many local government and private offices and familiar with their protocol for arriving guests. Must be capable of planning and managing a wide variety of logistical operations.                  


Skills And Abilities: Must have the ability to supervise a team and give work guidance. Must have a valid host country category B driver’s license. Level I (less than 40 wpm) typing is required. Must be computer literate and use the following packages: MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook and Power point. Must be able to work under pressure serving in a multicultural environment. Must have a good interpersonal and communication skills. Must be able to work with minimal supervision and to take initiative. This may be tested.

The U.S. Mission offers a competitive compensation and benefits package for local employees. 


SALARY: The annual gross salary includes: the Basic Rate, the Miscellaneous Benefits Allowance, and the End-of-the-Year Bonus. Seniority Allowance is paid in accordance with local labor law. A Cashier allowance is paid for eligible positions.


MEDICAL BENEFITS: The U.S. Mission in Yaoundé directly reimburse eligible employees for covered medical expenses incurred for them and/or eligible dependents, subject to the stated limits of the Local Compensation Plan. 


LEAVE BENEFITS: Subject to the stated limits and rules of the Local Compensation Plan, employees are entitled to the following types of leaves: Annual Leave, Sick Leave, Maternity Leave, Special Leave.


HOLIDAYS: The U.S. Mission in Yaounde and the Embassy Branch Office in Douala observe American and Cameroonian public holidays, about 19 holidays per year.
